APPOINTMENT OF MANAGER/EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
On behalf of the Board of Directors, the HBPA of Alberta wishes to announce the appointment of Mr. Darrell Bauder as Manager/Executive Director of the Association effective June 1, 2017 replacing outgoing Manager Mat Monaco.
The search for the successor commenced on March 12, 2017 with expressions of interest due by April 15, 2017. The Selection Committee appointed by the Board of Directors, interviewed a total of six (6) candidates for the position with Darrell ultimately being offered and accepting the position. We wish to convey our appreciation to all the applicants who expressed interest in the position.
Darrell’s professional background is in the Information Technology (IT) field. In addition, he has been involved in various entrepreneurial ventures. His involvement as a racing fan goes back to the early 1970s and has contributed his time to the industry by serving as a Director of the CTHS of Alberta as well the Chair of the HRA Breed Improvement Committee. In 2013 he established an Industry Stakeholders group to help guide the facilitating of a return to racing to the Calgary marketplace at Century Downs. The Group was reestablished in 2016 to oversee the transition of Northlands’ exit from racing.
Darrel achieved the ultimate success as a small regional breeder by breeding North American Graded Stake winner Heart to Heart who has earned over $1 million to date.
The Board welcomes Darrell to the Association and wishes him all the best in his new role. Furthermore, the Directors wish to express their gratitude to Mat Monaco for his contribution to the HBPA as a past Director, Officer, member of the Finance Committee, and his role as Manager during the past thirteen (13) years.
