Horse Racing Alberta (HRA) is a private, not for profit organization with a mandate to govern, direct, control, regulate, market and promote the Alberta Horse Racing and Breeding Industry.
HRA is currently accepting applications for a Public Board Member(s).
As a Public Board Member your responsibilities will include: establishing policies, developing strategies and effective implementation of plans, decision making in respect to licenses and regulations, providing leadership on all matters relating to the HRA mandate and overall activities.
A solid understanding of business, governance and the ability to evaluate complex information and make difficult decisions is expected. This experience is supplemented with a proven ability to work effectively with other Board Members and diverse stakeholders. Professional experience i.e. legal, financial, equine health, strategic planning, regulatory or policy development as well as knowledge of the horse racing industry would be considered an asset.
It is essential that you have a flexible schedule that can accommodate up to two scheduled meetings per month and assigned committee work. As a Public Board Member, you will receive a per-diem honorarium and paid expenses.
Appointments are normally for a three-year term with the opportunity of one additional term. Current provincial legislation awaiting to be enacted could limit the initial term to approximately 18 months.
