When Godolphin’s Modern Games was improperly scratched from the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf he was allowed to race for purse money only. Thoroughbred racing fans weren’t happy about that.
Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Century Mile, the Alberta jiggies out did Del Mar and the Breeders’ Cup by racing an entire 8 race card for purse money only. Phil’s source’s abacus totaled the purse money given away at $60,400.00 with not a nickel wagered.
Mind you when the powers that bee put on them rose coloured glasses and think their handle is exploding how can you expect the combined brain power at Horse Racing Alberta, Alberta Standterdbred Horse Association and Century Mile to realize just how fucking ridiculous this idea was.
A Jewish woman had two chickens. One got sick, so the woman made chicken soup out of the other one to help the sick one get well.
HRA is like the Mafia – all the jobs are no show.
In his Can North American and Alberta Thoroughbred Racing Survive This Prosperity post Phil posited that for thoroughbred racing to survive in North America and in Alberta competent management needed to perform tough tasks to keep racing viable in an ever changing market.
That market is getting tougher every day and horse racing’s social license is diminishing.
The Alberta jiggies are lucky that Horse Racing Wrongs is a US based site. Phil can imagine their headlines about racing horses in brutal cold with no wagering and slot fueled welfare payments to the trainers, drivers and owners.
The only saving grace for the folly that took place at Century Mile on Saturday, December 18, 2021 is that no one is even watching their product to notice how fucking stupid it is to race 8 races with no wagering and pay out $60,400.00 in slot revenue fueled purses. Maybe the powers that bee’s brains have imploded so far and fast that they thought with no US college football they’d get a gargantuan viewer share.
Phil says that the powers that bee in horse racing in Alberta need to learn 2 words – imploding and decoupling.
