Bar None Ranches
Our Services
Bar None Ranches regrets to announce that we have dis-continued our reproduction / foaling division and will no longer be accepting new stallions / mares.
Lynn’s goal for the future is for Bar None Ranches to remain a dominant force in the breeding industry and offer Alberta breeders and owners the opportunity to have access to top quality stallions and facilities. With the involvement of his daughter, this vision for the future seems to be right on track.

Horse Racing Alberta posted a Notice on their website.
What Horse Racing Alberta failed to do, besides meeting their mandate, is to advise that the owners of the stallions that had recently been at Bar None have relocated to the Edmonton area.

Sal says that Sal can’t think of a more idiotically, arrogantly, ignorantly condescending manner to start a letter than with the phrase “As you know”.
Sal says that whenever Sal sees the phrase “As you know” the one thing that Sal then knows is that the writer is arrogantly condescending.
Sal says that the real reason that Bar None and countless others in Alberta have left the thoroughbred breeding business is that the rock bottom break even price for a thoroughbred yearling is about $20,000.00 CDN and the average sales price in Alberta is a tad more than half of that. As Matlock would say you don’t need more than Economics 101 to realize that’s not the way to operate a flourishing business.
Unlike Clark Kent, the Captain and Tenille before him and the rest of the window gazers at Horse Racing Alberta the Breeders don’t have a cushy position that keeps depositing in their bank account whether or not they meet any performance standards.
The rest of the buzz words and platitudes may sound nice, but they’re as hollow and useless as the business plans that HRA keeps providing the government that contain no concrete steps to improve the industry and pie in the sky fictional budget figures that will never ever ever be achieved.
Sal has a plan to improve horse racing in Alberta. Get rid of Horse Racing Alberta and set up a regulatory branch at AGLC to govern the operation of horse racing in Alberta. Take the savings in salaries and other expenses and plunk them back into the breeding industry and promotion of horse racing in Alberta and horse racing will be better for it.
Sal says that if anyone at Horse Racing Alberta, AGLC, the provincial government or the province of Alberta generally wants to discuss Sal’s idea on getting rid of Horse Racing Alberta or anything else they can contact Sal at hs@holybull.ca.
Public hangings are teaching moments. Every company has to do it. A teaching moment is worth a thousand CEO speeches. CEOs can talk and blab each day about culture, but the employees all know who the jerks are. They could name the jerks for you. It’s just cultural. People just don’t want to do it.
Jack Welch
If you don’t have public hangings for bad culture in a company, if you don’t take people out and let them say, they went home to spend more time with the family. It’s crazy.
Jack Welch
Bar None Ranches may have shut down their thoroughbred breeding operation in Alberta but they were active purchasers at the 2022 British Columbia Thoroughbred Sale.

One thing that Infantino is correct about is the double standard.
When Qataris visit the western nations they expect the western nations to respect the Qataris’ rights.
When persons from the the western nations visit Qatar the Qataris expect them to respect the Qataris’ rules and rights.

SAL and PHIL, another year will pass without a HRA Xmas card or party invite, as the Undertaker still has you on his naughty list, for promotional swag.
CENTURY MILE harness opening night had a dismal $81k bet, with his reduced role will he grow the parimutuel handle from a budgeted 81 million to 110 million this year! I wonder if marketing / promotion means another UCP not NDP bailout?
To put some perspective on the jiggie handle.
Total Handle was $81,988 for 13 races.
Total Purses paid were $97,600
Dismal may be a tad too optimistic adjective.
