Standardbred Canada – SC, CTHS Announce National Economic Impact Study

Sal says he’s read many studies on the Economic Impact of the horse racing industry, but not one has included the contribution to the mushroom industry.

The Nominations for the Runhappy Malibu are out and include Peter Redekop’s Apprehend, a son of Arrogate out of Hero’s Amor the multiple stakes winning mare that raced in Alberta and British Columbia for Elevated Bloodstock & Raxon Cho, who are also the breeders of Apprehend. Apprehend is trained by Peter Miller.

With 15 3 year olds nominated to the Runhappy Malibu and 18 to the La Brea looks like we’re in for a good Boxing Day Card at Santa Anita.

His sophomore campaign was highlighted by an extraordinary effort in the Jim Dandy Stakes (G2), where he was bested narrowly by just half a length by Essential Quality. Four weeks later, he ran in the Runhappy Travers Stakes (G1), checking in fourth behind the same rival. His races at ages 2 and 3 came for trainer Robertino Diodoro.

Sports Business Journal – Eat, drink, bet: Online operators gamble big on in-person lifestyle options with luxurious retail sportsbook locations

Sal says that it’s time for AGLC to move gambling in Alberta into the 20th century.  Las Vegas is the easieist city to fly to from Edmonton or Calgary but AGLC and the UCP government still have their heads in the Ladies and Escorts mentality of you can have a vice but we won’t let you enjoy it. All the right wing freedom screamers should take a look at just how repressive the UCP and Polliviere conservatives are before they start bashing anyone else.

Sal says that if Woodbine can get their handle stats out on the day after their final day what is wrong with Century Mile and Horse Racing Alberta. Maybe the windows frosted over.

The Hustle – Dent – The sneaky economics of Ticketmaster

Sal says that Dent could spend another week reporting on how a large percentage of tickets get sold to the online after market that is very suspiciously related to Ticketmaster and only get into fans hands after  a usurious fee and then a gargantuan markup. Sal says that there’s a very simple solution. Stay home.

The Reality Check Tour comes with strict rules around phone usage. All devices will be secured in Yondr pouches upon arrival and usage during the performance is not allowed with the exception of a secure, specially-designated area in the arena. Anyone found using devices during the performance will be removed by security.

Sal says that the UCP must have a few pension topping cronies that need a position at the government trough for a few more years. The far right fanatics and the conservatives claim they want small government, but the second there’s an opportunity they expand government and invite more of their kind to the public trough.

Paquette admits there’s a learning curve and that she has to listen, take advice and practice. That may yet turn her into a decent announcer.

  1. CENTURY MILE Grinch that stole NO live thoroughbred racing drink specials aka Nicky, finally removes their Dec 6th Facebook posting after reminding them the meet ended weeks ago. Geoff Smith managing director famous quote of racing first then casino second, didn’t apply to having a cool one or cocktail for patrons.

CENTURY MILE harness weekend handle of 60k then 73k, versus woodbine extended card yesterday of 8.1 million bet, is an Undertaker marketing disaster.

ROBERTINO Diodoro with a win at OAKLAWN yesterday sits at 2978 wins on his march to coveted 3,000 win plateau with $6 million purses this year and over 300 horses in his stable. In layman terms that’s half the century mile A track thoroughbred population, and 60 million in career purses equivalent to 10 years of A track thoroughbred purses in Alberta. The grass is greener south of the border. At least some Alberta trainers have headed south to Turf Paradise.

  2. Check the HRA website under fields about then documents then 2003/2015/2019 for economic benefits horse racing /breeding Alberta is a maze of pie charts and financial abacus assumptions. Let’s show the decline of KLEIN EMPIRE.

2003 survey active horse populations A track thoroughbreds 1500 and standardbreds 800, not shown in 2015 or 2019, 2022?? doubtful survey will.

Wagering 1991 a peak of 230.9 million and then 135.2 in 2000 and 81 million in 2021, thoroughbred dates peak A Track 118 to 54 this yr, growth industry??

HRA states that rule 10.2 annual financial reporting audited in spring and released in the fall is not part of their mandate, ACCOUNTABILITY zip.

This matter has been passed CTHS for review, declining numbers tell true story!
