reaches agreement with

Horsemen’s Associations in Alberta

for 2017 Racing Season.

Century Downs Racetrack and Casino is pleased to announce the ratification of an agreement with the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) of Alberta for Thoroughbred Racing at Century Downs in the Fall of 2017. The one-year agreement will allow Century Downs to conduct Thoroughbred Horse Racing for the first time and immediately follows the third Standardbred Season at the Calgary track. Racing on weekends at 1:10 pm from September 23 until November 5, the ″boutique“ meet will mark the return of Thoroughbred Racing to Calgary after a nine-year absence.

″This is an exciting time in Horse Racing in Alberta!“ noted Paul Ryneveld, General Manager of Century Downs, ″the return of Thoroughbred Racing to Calgary and what is now our third Standardbred season has created buzz in the region and Western Canada.“

Key racing events this year include: the opening of the Standardbred season on March 18, Canada Day fireworks and evening racing on July 1, the Calgary Racing Festival from August 6 – August 12 that begins with the $130,000 estimated Ralph Klein Memorial and Lady Luck Stakes and culminates with the first leg of the World Driving Championship on August 12, the first time a leg has been held in Western Canada, as well as Opening Day of Thoroughbred racing on September 23.”
