Louisville Courier-Journal – New ESPN 30 for 30 short: ‘Gonzo @ The Derby’

Questo è per Phil:

I have long understood that losing always comes with the territory when you wander into the gambling business, just as getting crippled for life is an acceptable risk in the linebacker business. They both are extremely violent sports, and pain is part of the bargain. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Hunter S. Thompson

When illustrator Ralph Steadman accepted an assignment with writer Hunter S. Thompson at the Kentucky Derby, he never imagined the weekend that would ensue. Here, Steadman depicts the race's winner, a colt named Dust Commander.

The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved Written under duress by Hunter S. Thompson

Questo è per I nove:

No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master.

The Northlands Park Stake book has been posted on Equibase:

Equibase – Northlands Stake Book

Sal will tell you that Sal did not receive an e-mail or any other communication from Northlands Park racing secretary Jason Teague about the Stake Book and first condition book being posted on Equibase.

Sal will tell you that Sal did not receive an e-mail or any other communication from any Northlands Park manager or other personnel about the Stake Book and first condition book being posted on Equibase.

Sal will share with you the comments about Northlands Park that were posted on the Paulick Report and Sal’s comments.

Sal was leafing through Phil’s e-mail’s yesterday and the criticism of the Northlands Park racing secretary Jason Teague is well deserved.

Racing in Alberta has gone downhill since Stampede Park lost their days. Northlands is a joke right down from Management to their inept racing secretary to their horrible race caller. I used to own horses there a decade ago and I will not be back.

Paulick Report – Canada: Horse Racing Facing Uncertain Future In Alberta

Nary an e-mail to Phil or Phil’s comment e-mail from Jason Teague.

Does Jason Teague think that the communication process works by osmosis. Because he knows something it will transfer to everyone else.

Yes today’s social media works wonders in spreading the message out rapidly, but even social media needs the seeds.

Perhaps Northlands CEO Tim Reid wouldn’t be calling the horse racing industry declining if Northlands Park employees were doing their jobs of getting the information out to the people and giving the customers decent service.

Sal says that Phil said that someone said one of the most cogent comments Phil had ever heard about thoroughbred racing in the province of Alberta:

We need to improve the professionalism of horse racing in the province of Alberta.

Say says it’s time that all of the organizations responsible for putting on and promoting thoroughbred racing in the province of Alberta started to improve their professionalism. Alberta thoroughbred racing does not need a bunch of petty little despots trying to build and run their own petty little parochial fiefdoms. Alberta thoroughbred racing needs all interested parties to cooperate and communicate with each other to work together to improve the professionalism of horse racing in the province of Alberta.

It should not be up to Sal or Phil to have to scour the websites of the Alberta organizations and participants for their stories and information. Phil didn’t leave Sal any trolling bots. The Alberta organizations and participants should be providing Sal or Phil with their  stories and information even if only 100 or more people read them on holybull.ca. That’s 100 or more people than who would read them otherwise.

Sal thanks Mat Monaco of Alberta HBPA and Jean Kruse of Alberta CTHS for the information that they do provide to Sal and have in the past provided to Phil.

Sal likes to play the Who’s the Asshole in this scenario game and was wondering if the jiggies do. They could put Sal in a gargantuan conundrum of monumental proportions if any jiggie organization sent Sal horse racing information to post on www.holybull.ca.

I nove know what Sal would do.

Bloodhorse – Angst – In Lexington Stakes, Collected Cashes In

ESPN – DRF – McGee – Collected wins Lexington Stakes

TwinSpires Blog – Scully – Collected much the best in Lexington

Collected probably the best of Baffert’s battalion of three year olds won’t have enough points to get into the Kentucky Derby starting gate.

Sal’s not one to second guess a trainer but why wouldn’t Baffert have switched the races for Cupid who already had sufficient points for the Derby and who ran up the track in the Arkansas Derby and Collected or do what Steve Asmussen did run 2 horses in the Arkansas Derby. Asmussen was rewarded with a win and another horse in the Derby.

Sal was wondering if Steve Asmussen is using the same coiffeur as Donald Trump.

If someone had told you last week that City Zip would have 2 graded stakes winners on the same weekend you would guffaw. If they would have told you that the races were at 1 mile and 1 1/16 miles you would have had them measured for one of those white coats that does up in the back.

But first Canadian Horse of the Year Catch a Glimpse won the $125,000 Appalachian Stakes GIIIT presented by Japan Racing Association going 1 mile on the Keeneland turf and then on Saturday Collected won the $150,000 Lexington Stakes GIII going 1/16 miles on the Keeneland dirt. Sal looked in the Keeneland sky and did not see the midnight sun.

Sal says that if Phil hadn’t been lambasted by the Battersea omnibus and was running a Kentucky Derby contest this book or Barry Irwin’s book would most likely be one of the prizes.

Sal was leafing through Phil’s contest archives and noticed that all of Phil’s contests were governed by Cabin Rules. Where Sal comes from our stickball games were governed by back alley rules.

Speaking of back alleys Sal thinks that’s the reason there are no Canadian teams in the NHL playoffs this year.

The Globe And Mail – Dear Canada

Sal says anything they can do Sal can do better differently.

Balmoral Auction

Dear Canada Justin;

Sal don’t mind you heading down to Washington to rub elbows with the President of the United States of America but when you head down be prepared to discuss matters of significant importanza.

When the President gives you a tit for the Stanley Cup now residing in his home city of Chicago in the great state of Illinois be prepared with a Gordie Howe elbow to give him back a tat for the great state and his adopted home state of Illinois’ crooked politicians and how brutally they have mishandled horse racing in their state. Sal really don’t care that a couple of jiggy tracks like Balmoral and Maywood ride off into the sunset, but just think how much the handle in Alberta will suffer now that Bob can’t bet Balmoral. Maybe Lollapalooza can use them for alternate venues.

What really peeves Sal is that with Maywood and Balmoral closing the state of Illinois has foisted the jiggies on Hawthorne and has left Hawthorne in such dire straits that the Illinois Derby may be run in the fall of 2016 or not at all.

Sal understands that you come from the province in Canada where they’d rather see a horse on their plate than on the track, but Sal asks that you get on the blower with the President and get him to reinstate the agreement that the horsemen in Illinois had with the casinos to compensate them for infringement on their gaming territory. And remind the President that Hawthorne should be off limits to the jiggies.

Sal says that if you want to bring the President to Alberta Sal can arrange for a freezer full of prime Alberta beef to fall off a truck for your and the President’s dining pleasure. If you want some good advice ask Jean Chrétien. Jean will tell you that he always liked to come to Alberta for some prime Alberta beef and a respite from the rubber chicken circuit whether or not we voted for his party.

Yours til the US drinks Canada Dry,

Salvaturi Demonico Rocaccio

  1. CENTURY DOWNS ACCIDENT RACE#8 YESTERDAY. SHOULD RACE VIDEO BE SHOWN?

HRA claims it plans to do things better with a accident investigation, could we start by not showing horrific replays at racetracks and media outlets where drivers or jockeys are injured and the equine athletes are put down.

NORTHLANDS/HRA years ago had a famous 10 best accidents replay presented by HUNTINGTON. Only after a complaint to HORSE WELFARE ALBERTA by Mucka was it removed.
Does ASHA/HRA and the racing participants think is is the best way of promoting horse racing. I HOPE NOT!

HRA HORSE WELFARE COMMITTEE is a joke if they allow this practice to continue!

  2. HORSE RACING HOPE MANIFESTO TO BE RELEASED SOON

Horse racing hope manifesto is rumoured to be released soon with the removal of FOSSILS from behind desks (aka DEAD WOOD) rather the federal NDP leap manifesto of not removing fossil fuels.

NDP BUDGET proclaims the amalgamating or dissolving of 36 boards/ boards/ commissions saving over $33 million over 3 years will horse racing move from the finance department to FISH/WILDLIFE as it becomes a downstream industry with endangered species?

CAPTAIN finishes his chairman tenure with ALBERTA TOURISM will he finally be devoting 25 hours per week of his expected work schedule per page 37 CUFF REPORT to change the way they do things at HRA DOUBTFUL since he will milk this job until the cow udders hit the shavings !

EDMONTON COUNCIL after the future of racing is that they exploring all options at least their talking!

TENILE’S state of the union address about racing has been cancelled, unlike NOTLEY’S kitchen address due to the fact that she couldn’t find a dry stall in the winter barns as if she even knows where it is!

TROT MAGAZINE introduces free 3rd edition of FANTASY STABLE year long contest with over 1200 contestants, couldn’t the HBPA/NORTHLANDS come up with a contest. But that would take planning and work effort?

NORTHLANDS OUTS (outstanding uncashed tickets) was $49k from January 1 to March 31/2106 a far cry from the quarterly 100k to 150k it has added to their slush fund since it is not shared with horsemen. The horsemen in Alberta need to get off their duffs and negotiate for a split of this revenue.

Boy the ROMAN EMPIRE is collapsing with old timers remembering the $1 million daily handles!

CURTIS STOCK wins another award, could he be part of the new management team that could be running NORTHLANDS PARK next year, even a cigar smoking area would be part of his job perk!

UNDERTAKER been posting more articles in the HRA, faster the building of fence in MEXICO, could FRANK FONTANA with another article in standardbred Canada be utilized for current thoroughbred activities, Unfortunately due to a upcoming movie role he can not be new dread pirate, Sal.

HORSE OWNERSHIP trade show at western fair next month as TEAM SUGAR provides a insight into horse ownership to bring new owners into the industry as ALBERTA’S owner base dwindles and starts collecting old age pension cheques instead of race purses.

NDP RACINO AGREEMENT with its cuts that in 2 years with a 23% reduction will mean about $30 million in horse grants and $21 million operating going to A tracks and $4 million HRA governace/$25 million will leave about $5 million to horsemen, talk about leaving scraps for the rest of us?

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
