Melnyk was also a successful thoroughbred horse-racing breeder, twice being named Canada’s top owner. His horses won all three legs of the Canadian Triple Crown, including Archers Bay capturing the ’98 Queen’s Plate and Prince of Wales Stakes en route to being named Canada’s champion 3-year-old male.
In 2013, Melnyk reduced his horse-racing operation and went from breeding to purchasing yearlings and racing those instead. Melnyk was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2017.

Sunday, Phil was out shopping for one of the first prizes for the 2022 Holybull.ca Kentucky Derby Contest at one of the local liquor emporiums, Wine and Beyond – Southgate. Damn if Phil can ever remember if it’s Kentucky Derby 148 or 57 so Phil was about to google the number when he noticed a blue haired employee nearby. Phil asked if the Woodford Reserve Kentucky Derby 148 bottle was the 2022 Derby and received a most unusual response. Phil was advised that the previous years’ bottle featured artwork with the horses coming towards you and this year’s has a side view of the horses. Phil was also advised that the Canadian stores receive only a few of the bottles each year and they rapidly sell out. Now Phil remembers why this is one of his favourite liquor emporiums.
The Wine and Beyond at Southgate has 2 less Kentucky Derby 148 bottles in stock.
They also have Dram in a Can. Phil is always looking for a sur prize.

Well, computers and the Interstate Horseracing Act changed all that – but the economic model has been very slow to adjust to a fair market rate for the track’s races. The result is that the account wagering company makes a larger percentage of the wager than the racetrack and horse owners combined.
Having said that, the track and their purse account on many occasions receive an ADW handle payment of 5% of the wager, which means that, for every $1m bet on these tracks at an ADW, the tracks and their purse accounts each received $25,000.

Will the Brown family ask for the removal of their name from this sordid organization.
Will scumbucket be No. 1 with a bullet on the replacement name list.
“The NFL has a disturbing history of enabling and excusing the abuse of women, and unfortunately this is just the latest example,” said prominent victims’ rights attorney Michelle Simpson Tuegel. “The Browns’ leadership is telling survivors that the possibility of winning more football games is more important than the 22 women who have bravely come forward with serious allegations of abuse against Watson.”
As it relates to Watson possibly facing a league-issued suspension, Berry said that the team has and will continue to have open communication with the NFL. Berry added that Watson’s salary — which includes a $1 million base salary for the 2022 season — is not to protect the team from a possible suspension but to give them flexibility moving forward.
If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.

How can the Brown’s owners Twiddle Dee and Twiddle Dum think that this jerk has enough brains to quarterback an NFL team when he doesn’t have enough brains to know when to shut the fuck up.
Phil has a question:
Does when to shut the fuck up mean the same as when the fuck to shut up.
If the guaranteed money is $230 million then how does $10 million for each of the 22 Plaintiffs and $10 million donated to a Women’s charity sound.
When you hear Deshaun publicly disrespect each of these 22 women does he not make Trevor Bauer sound contrite.
Did any one in the Cleveland organization twig to the fact that when Watson came running back to them after dissing them that perhaps Cleveland was his only opportunity and a better deal could be negotiated.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.

UCP keeps the revenue stream flowing until 2031??
The sizzling hot rumour of the UCP government agreeing to extend HRA funding agreement for 5 more years to March 2031 is positive??? The 400k paper shuffle of HRA governance is holding up finalization pending the decision of new structure has been made, one year later and lights still flashing.
Finalization of 5 yr block of race dates still pending, silent Mike responding??
Slot revenue share to HRA down 250k in December 2022, hoping it trends up??
ASHA puts the cart ahead of the horses. Still hoping for more slots at track on 2, (currently 8 VLTs), with 480k for a telus line and a 4-6 month timeline. The memo about REC rejection, and current appeal process, has the blind leading blind!
HBPA meeting in a month should address issues, silence is not golden, no transparency from silent Mike as the thoroughbred racing industry needs clarifications.
