Interesting Alberta Bred 2 year old entered in the Summer Stakes GI at Woodbine on Saturday, September 16, 2023 – Bucyk. Bucyk was foaled in Alberta and sold in the 2022 Keeneland September Sale as Hip 1777. He was consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, Agent. Bucyk was bred in Alberta by Daniel Investments Holdings Inc. a name not very familiar in Alberta breeding circles.
Phil won’t waste the ink asking Clark Kent or the Undertaker about this horse or the breeder.
Daniel Investment Holdings raced Bucyk’s dam Delcapem that they purchased at the 2018 Ocala Breeders April 2 year olds in training Sale.
Daniel Investments Holdings Inc. raced 5 mares so stay tuned for updates on other foals.
Phil’s reminded of a couple of Edmonton boys who went on to win the Stanley Cup while playing for the Boston Bruins.

‘Kraut Line’ of Bruins honored before going to war
In this country we are a peace loving people, and great tasks lie before us in the peaceful development of our resources. We have no lasting quarrel with the German people, who have great qualities and whose achievements in every important sphere of human progress are conspicuous, although they are temporarily misled by the militarism of Prussia; but we will fight to the death against the vain attempt of an arrogant militarist oligarchy to impose upon the world its ideals of force and violence and to achieve its unworthy purpose by “blood and iron”.

The 11 runners made this year’s Prince of Wales the largest field in two decades, which drove wagering to a record high for the track. For the first time in its history, wagering on the Prince of Wales Stakes topped $1 million, with on-track and off-track wagering combining to reach $1.05 million on the second jewel of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown. The track nearly doubled its previous record of $635,000.
Despite a heavy downpour earlier in the day, the $3.48 million in total wagering on the Prince of Wales card was the largest handle in Fort Erie’s 126-year history.

Bloodhorse – Byron King – Velocitor Picks Up Pace in Sloppy Prince of Wales Win
Phil could hear the bettors who wagered on Paramount Prince licking their chops as the late CAW money dropped the odds on Stanley House, the eventual post time favourite to 3/2 while raising the odds on Paramount Prince from 3/5 to even money as they loaded and to 5/2 final odds. Unfortunately, Velocitor rained on their cashing parade rewarding his followers at CAW inflated odds with Paramount Prince fading to third and Stanley House who made an early move on the outside still searching for his Cup. Since the late money inflated the odds for the eventual winner I’m sure there will be no complaints.
