Gettysburg will be trained by Steve Asmussen for the Belmont. Asmussen is the trainer of Creator, who won the Arkansas Derby and finished 13th in the Kentucky Derby. Gettysburg had made his previous seven starts for trainer Todd Pletcher, who has two other horses in the Belmont – Stradivari and Destin – for other clients.

“When you start talking strategies and a trainer has multiple horses in the race, it can get a little confusing sometimes,” Walden said. “The fact Steve has Gettysburg and Creator and we’re his only owner takes out the conflict of having multiple horses in the race for different owners, and Todd was 100 percent behind it.”

We would think though that the most pleasing experience for Curtis would have occurred in the 6th Race when Alberta Thoroughbred Club’s first starter Streakin Discreet also won by a margin of 12 lengths in front of a large Northlands crowd. You cannot not make this stuff up – how good is this for the neophyte owners? Prior to the race there were club members who visited Craig Smith’s barn taking in what the backside of a racetrack has to offer. The report was that 50 club members were in the Winners Circle photo with others on the outside looking in. Needless to say it was an exciting moment for all involved. We further understand that immediately following the race there were many others signing up to be part of the action. Winning is obviously a very effective marketing tool.

Understand one basic premise: All players will attempt to gain an advantage by cheating to whatever degree they are allowed. How they accomplish this without getting ejected is all about the technique they employ. There is a special art to winning faceoffs — legally or without being ejected for cheating. 1. ATTENTION RACE INDUSTRY TENILE’S CRYSTAL BALL GETS MANUFACTURER RECALL NOTICE

A quick review of the 2015 HRA ANNUAL REPORT found in their website under ABOUT/ then DOCUMENTS and then SCROLL down left to near bottom for 2015 annual reports.

HRA reports total ALBERTA LIVE handle at $13.7 million versus NORTHLANDS HBPA 2015 live handle at $21.475 million per dec 1/2015 website report a difference of $7.745 million as they discredit the efforts of the thoroughbred industry

HRA’S bottom line shows a $740k loss even though revenues increased %49 with 9 months of CENTURY DOWNS racino revenue.

ALBERTA TOTAL BETTING was $134.279 million with runners at $99.9 million to standardbred $34.3 million a 3-1 ratio, and a increase of 900k more in their purses due to 5% cut to thoroughbred A %.

HRA HANDLE BUDGET was $167.487 million in 2015 that was $134.279 million a drop of $3.3 million
from $137.087 million as UNDERTAKER’S marketing budget was increased to $1.579 million in 2015 more than double the $708k in 2014, no wonder he stopped showing betting handle figures.

HRA POSITIVE NEWS 2015 travel budget was 244k only spent 143k probably due to tenile busy running diamond jim’s leadership campaign and appeal/tribunal budget was 42k only spent 6.6k due to the fact that 14/15 appeals from 2015 were not heard, governance of horse racing must not be a priority!

  2. HRA 2015 ANNUAL REPORT POSTED. Undertaker must have read my comments in holybull.
I’m surprised that on page 3 it states hoping that racino agreement gets done by the CEO. It’s June 5/2016 do you think they could have changed that. Obviously ACCOUNTABILITY doesn’t exist at HRA.

  3. HRA 2015 ANNUAL REPORT TO BE RELEASED IN SEPTEMBER?

ALBERTA legislature is still sitting and with legislation stating the annual report must be released within 60 days of dissolution, my guess is later than the usual late june release?

ALBERTA TORIES to set location and time by june 30 for 2017 LEADERSHIP CONVENTION, will TENILE take a active role in rebooting of the tory machine, or finally stay out of politics, DOUBTFUL! Will Renile do it on her own time and not on the HRA clock.

ALBERTA DOWNS fantasy 22 date meet starts today, did HRA receive the $1 million guarantee payout for the PICK 10 pool to be placed in a escrow account?

NORTHLANDS seeks a public relation specialist, the impressive requirements however do not require a TERRY GRANT MANTRACKER backtracking certificate or apply to multitask in a fast paced work environment wearing asbestos work boots!

RED MCKENZIE the wily conditioner brings home a short priced $98 winner in SUNALTA , he was rumoured to have been seen shopping for a short sleeved flannel shirt with his winnings.

MEADOWLANDS in a effort to attract younger fans and introduce them to live horse racing holds a UNDER 30 HANDICAPPING CONTEST with only 42 entries this year down from 52 last year and a $5000 prize package, it demonstrates the difficulty in attracting this demographic age group.

CONGRATULATIONS to the ALBERTA THOROUGHBRED CLUB on their win yesterday, the happiest person was the RYAN the photographer, with the success of fractional ownership and the party after dark promotion, the reported demise of live horse racing is greatly refuted.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY- ALBERTA sets a yearly record of $2.5 billion sold of alcoholic beverages to March 31/2015 a 6% increase, the only question to be answered is where is the nearest can.

    • Mucka:
A spanner in the guise of a lack of jockeys has been thrown into the 22 day Sunday meet at Alberta Downs works.
Sal says thanks to those who applied the brakes.
      Stay tuned.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
